It’s hard to keep your own childhood out of the fore as you parent (see: ghosts in the nursery.) Despite your self-awareness, some unwanted patterns are repeating themselves. There’s a lot of pressure these days to “end generational trauma,” and you might feel really frustrated or like a failure. But have you considered that self-compassion is an integral part of being a calm, confident leader?
Being harsh with yourself can lead to feelings of depression and hopelessness. Research shows that parenting that lacks warmth is not effective for changing child behavior. It follows then that being unkind to yourself is an equally unproductive way to change. If you choose to learn parenting skills with me, you will find a non-judgmental space for you to explore growth areas, practice new things, highlight your unique abilities as a parent, and be “re-parented” yourself.
